Valuing the human in digital transformation in pharmacy
Webinar Topic.
Digital transformation brings about radical changes within the health care landscape and work dynamics: different is the way people collaborate and relate to each other, different are the tools they have at their disposal. The pharmacy world is not exempt from this paradigm shift, facing the delicate balance represented by innovation and human value. Embracing all the benefits and opportunities that digital has to offer while ensuring the centrality of the human element requires the pharmacist to have a set of new knowledge and skills that are indispensable in the pharmacy of the future. On the one hand, in fact, digital can provide greater productivity, speed, flexibility and visibility, ensuring that the pharmacy expands its services and its users: the pharmacy gets closer to the patient, the patient to the pharmacy. In addition, digital can relieve the pharmacist of repetitive tasks, allowing him or her to focus on what really matters: the relationship with the patient. At the same time, however, digital has the potential to exacerbate inequalities, widening the value gap between those with more and less digital skills. These are just some of the challenges that the pharmacist of the future will have to juggle: it will be necessary to know how to choose and use tools in which technology is the means to improve health status, to outline a strategic digitization plan for one's pharmacy that is inclusive and leaves no one behind, even before developing new skills through training and digital literacy.
